Roadmap for 2024 patch releases

Hi everyone,

We need to decide when to do patch releases for the 2024 version. Right now, this mainly involves creating corresponding gitlab milestones for planning the work. I will also bring this up during our biweekly meeting today. I do not expect any strong opinions, but in case the dates collide with other obligations of yours, and you think that you might need to commit fixes, it would be good to flag that beforehand, so that we can consider that and adapt the release schedule.

I would suggest the following development milestones (with actual patch releases the week after):
2024.2 - Already planned for 2024-04-26
2024.3 - 2024-08-16
2024.4 - 2024-10-18
2024.5 - 2024-01-24

This would mean a gap during summer, but hopefully most important issues have already been fixed in 2024.2.

2024.2 - Already planned for 2024-04-26

We have 2023.5 planned for 2024-04-30. Given our workflow of branch merging, I think it would better to have 2023.5 released before 2024.2. How about swapping these two dates?

Yes, I was thinking along the same lines, when I had a closer look at the schedule today. And since we have tried to have patch release milestones on Fridays, I would actually propose:
2023.5 - 2024-04-26
2024.2 - 2024-05-03
