Gromacs for Windows on Arm Architecture for Copilot+PC

I 'm looking forward to knowing if GROMACS is compatible with Arm Architecture for Copilot+ PC laptops running on Windows on Arm?

Hi!

On Windows with Visual Studio, there are known issues which we expect to solve in the upcoming GROMACS 2027. However, GROMACS is extensively tested on ARM on Linux, so you can try building it under WSL; please share your feedback if you do!

Hello

we don’t have a way to test it under WSL,do you have a detailed documentation for installing and configuring WSL and GROMACS on Arm devices? do you plan to support it natively on Windows on Arm for GROMACS 2027 or it will be still under emulation? is it possible to add a support statement on the website or the forum like “GROMACS can run under emulation or native under Windows on Arm…etc”? we can help by sending you a test device from our store if you commit for testing it

Hello @al42and could you please reply to my questions?

Hi @huba30,

We cannot commit to testing and supporting GROMACS on Windows, but we do our best effort to support GROMACS on widest variety of platforms.

Would it be possible, instead of sending in the device, for you to provide us access to a GitHub / GitLab runner on such a system in order to integrate it into our CI, ensuring the long-term stability and support?

Hi @al42and

Please follow this guidance and let me know if you have issues:

GitHub-hosted runners - GitHub Docs

arm64 standard runners are now available in private repositories - GitHub Changelog

@huba30: We already have plain ARM64 runners integrated in our CI: Avoid having a buffer go out of scope during async H2D copy · gromacs/gromacs@dd53a54 · GitHub

I was wondering if we can have an ARM64 runner with a GPU, like https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/devices/surface-rtx-spark-dev-box
